Those freethinkers and mavericks and contrarians at the Opposition Organ are at it again. In the wake of the serve Christopher Pearson gave Governor-General Quentin Bryce on Saturday, his colleage Frank Devine piles on today. But with even less sense!
This is not an attempt to portray the accomplished and charming Bryce as a Cromwellian dark star on the horizon.
Sometimes the kowtow can make a useful contribution to the common good, but to be characterised as a kind of household robot would have been hard to take for a girl from the bush who has raised five children and climbed to the top in the demanding profession of the law.
There was also a disconcerting ambiguity about Bryce’s announcement that her first travels would be to the Murray-Darling. Did she mean she would traverse these two immensely long rivers and make whistlestops at all the settlements within their vast embrace? Or was she intending to brief herself on the politics of climate change, conservation and state-commonwealth relations now implicit in the phrase Murray-Darling?
Entirely shamefully, as I contemplated the elegantly coiffured and accoutred new GG, admired her perfect profile and struggled to share her angst, it crossed my mind that if we had played our cards differently we might have recruited Boris Johnson.
Go figure.
Wow, he’s really reaching, isn’t he. I suppose if you scrabble around in the bottom of the barrel for long enough, you’ll come up with a handful of small things that have nothing to do with each other, and if you’re sufficiently self-deluded you’ll then arrange them into random paragraphs.
The main impression this mad gumf gives is that Frank Devine doesn’t believe that people whose decisions can bring down governments (as we know from history) should actually read things before they sign them.
Well, Dr Cat, in columnist land, maybe she’s sneaking in RADICAL FEMINISM in a footnote while she pretends to consider bills before she signs them?
Who knows? Coherent thought obviously isn’t Frank’s strong suit.
Oh my god, what is their problem? I really don’t get it, I thought she was a pretty, you know, normal and logical choice for the GG. She really doesn’t seem that different from any other GG, except for the fact she’s a woman.
It’s not like she’s done anything outre or said anything at all controversial. I find it so strange, such blatant sexism, that I almost can’t believe it.

The real issue with Quentyn “Cromwellian Darkstar” Bryce is that she represents another step to total domination of the commanding heights of this country by Queenslanders.
Since 24/11/07 we have seen a gradual consolidation of power by those from the Sunshine state that has reached it’s zenith with this new appointment, yet the mainstream media, terrified of Pineapple-yellow cane-toad bombers darkening the skies has remained silent. I call on Frank Devine and Dennis Shanahan to wake up to the real threat to Australia’s prosperity: the legion maroon-jackbooted, bundy-swilling Banabenders, who stand poised to rename vast swathes of the country ‘Mexico’, ban our appaling native southern draft beer with their own diabolical concoctions, arrest NSWRL, all while muttering darkly about Syndey-Melbourne centrism…
