It was meant to be a quiet weekend, where I went through photocopies of stuff from Peter Force’s American Archives, the Adams Family Papers, George Washington’s Papers, etc, etc., and took some notes. And it was that, sort of. But, as readers of Saturday Salon might realise, last night about 1 am I had a terrible breathing difficuty attack when I lay down to go to sleep. Thought of calling an ambulance and going to hospital, but really, I want to watch Dr. Who tonight, I’m expecting 4 books from overseas tomorrow or the next day, I’ve arranged to have lunch with Ute Man tomorrow down town, etc, etc, so really, a week in hospital is not an option. Anyway, I’m okay now, I have managed to get a bit of research done, but its slow, painstakingly boring note-taking. And, I really am hanging out for Dr. Who tonight.
(And thanks to everyone for messages of support.)

Glad you are feeling better Paul.
Too hot and humid for just about anything here in Ipswich.

I don’t know about you but I hate working on cars. Why is it that you get motivated to fix a couple of problems, you start pulling things to bits and then you’re confronted with an impossible position/tool/breakage/replacement part..talk about murphy’s, and then on top of all that you can’t find that bloody thing you need and you know you saw it a couple of days ago and 4hrs later you find it in the first box you looked in? Yep I’ve had one of those days. The trouble is I’m going to have several more of those days because I’ve made the cardinal mistake of swapping badges from 40years with Holdens to a 16 year old Ford..Frustration plus. Still I did manage to fix the windscreen washers tho’ I’m too embarrassed to list the failures.

But I bet there’s a sense of achievement there, Zorronsky!

I broke a spoke during my bike race today. As the busted spoke was flinging around, sounded like there multiple spokes breaking and I was going to end up having a very nasty accident.

Turned out to be only one spoke, so I wound it round one of the other spokes, loosened the back brake, and rode slowly home.

When I got home, I discovered that I’d also broken a bit called the derailleur hanger.

To top it off, my other wheel (the one with the special fancy-dancy glued-on tyre) wouldn’t hold air!

An expensive day…but at least I didn’t fall off :)

Speaking of bikes, boy rode his from Yarraville to Willi Rifle Range to hang out with a friend today. Ranging quite far afield now. There was quite a lot of bike track on the way but some road riding as well.

Girl has picked subjects for uni: Philosophy/Politics/Economics (Interdisplinary), Critical Data Analysis, Introduction to Political Ideologies, and Literature & Performance. That’s for the first semester (Melbourne Uni), they change. What long winded names the subjects have these days! *Waves walking stick*

Hope you don’t mean my going{ however temporarily } from Holden to Ford Robert. Now that could start a war! Yes, just the most minute bit of achievement.

A lazy day – friends (and their sons) to lunch – young boys+eat=energy. Daughter has finally her degree and now, honours. Proud (patient) parent.

  8. Jane

Well done, Fascinated. At least your daughter didn’t say 5 weeks from finals, ” Oh by the way, I don’t want to be a journalist, now Mum. I’ve lost the passion. I think I’ll start a double degree next year-teaching and law (or some such).”

Mother, through gritted teeth, “Well, you’d better finish this one and find a job, because we won’t be putting our hands in our pockets for another round.”

Daughter has been working in real estate for the last 4 years, but we’re still forking out for cars and computers, for some reason, apart from being completely crazy!

Spent yesterday working, doing bookwork and trying to figure out whether I should buy another 12 months’ worth of Ps for language disordered son, or let him have a crack at Hazard Perception Test. Have decided to go the extra Ps and start coaching. So it’s off to Naracoorte to cough up BAS crap for the accountant and to Motor Vehicles for extra P time.

  9. CMMC

How about a campaign to have Mark Bahnisch elevated to the commentariat?

Insiders, Q&A …etc. Kos (Markos Moulitsas) regularly appears on network TV in the U.S.

The blogosphere of the left must demand a voice in the mainstream.

  10. David Irving (no relation)

I’m honestly surprised he hasn’t already been offered a gig, CMMC. He’s heaps more insightful than most of the current bunch (excepting, of course, George M).

Spent the weekend emptying the rain gauge(yea) and getting to know the lovely doggie that we adopted from the RSPCA. He’s an absolute ripper and we’ve fallen in love with him.
