Hmm hubby and I thought it not a bad idea — the ad is well known and its form provides a strong scaffold.
The trouble is that the sequence of lines wasn’t sharp enough and the Kevin07 T-shirt was a waste of 2 seconds that sat ill with the rest. The flippers weren’t that funny and allude to us being hysterical. Nauru is at greater risk than Australia, as most recall from Copenhagen. The slogan is wrong. It’s not a price on pollution, but a price on CO2 or GHGs.
The focus should have been about why the ALP wants to let the big polluters off the hook and copy the coalition and why the consensus between the parties is not a price on CO2 whereas the consensus of the public supports one.

On the contrary, the T-shirt is quite important as the ad if focussing on the nature and credibility of Gillard. Her grab for power diminishes her credibility as much as her nothing statements on climate change. It ads a lot of punch to the ad and would give a labor a little bit of embarrassment and kick in the gut.
Gillard’s statements from day one and those of her colleagues give no comfort that Gillard Labor has any greater intention to act on this than Howard, whom she most resembles at the moment.

This is better produced than the trailer for Channel Ten’s Hawke telemovie!
Hmmm, the 30 second mark, “Not now, Tim”. This isn’t PC comedy. Which is partly why the left-ishts has long since won the whole genre.
Thomas Paine: Kevin07 T-shirt was a waste of 2 seconds that sat ill with the rest.
My first impression was that it was an OJ Simpson reference—and I think a lot of pop cultural literate types who’ve come up with the Internet will take it the same way. That’s one of the few ‘international’ events from before their time that the younger millennials would know about. How’s that for scary?

Sorry to be the horrible feminist joy-killer once again, looking to be offended – I thought I’d just get that in before someone else did – but the young-ish female PM is portrayed as a ditzy girl, who, at the end, only requires one brilliant sentence of mansplaining by a Dude to set her right again.
I agree with the entire message of the ad, but the subtext is headdeskingly awful.
Larvatus Prodeo was an Australian group blog which discussed politics, sociology, culture, life, religion and science from a left of centre perspective. more»
Loved it. Her accent reminded me of the Kath and Kim Melbourne snobs who love Tony Abbott.

Minor quibbles aside, I think it’s great.

Why do Get-up want an Abbott government?
Why do Get-up want an Abbott government?
They don’t, they just want the current government to adopt reasonable policies. Silly buggers, too much to ask I know.

Clever production, dumb ad. It loses its message by being an overloaded and personal attack on Gillard (without even being a half good impersonation).

Getup seem to have taken out the knife and hair bits. It’s a better ad, now it’s all about the carbon. The other bits were about the Julia.

Nah … it’s off base. That Dare ad really annoys me. The main character seems so insecure.
Isn’t it a bit long at 45″? I could be wrong, but aren’t television ads now between 15″ and 30″ in length?

Helen:
You’re right although i wouldn’t call Gillard youngish; she’s forty nine this year
