During a brief affliction with terminological sloppiness, we started calling some threads “open” when what we really meant was that they were general discussion threads dedicated to particular issues or breaking news of the day. The idea was/is to provide alternatives so as to avoid thread-drift on other posts dedicated to analysis of policy and/or events.
Such threads will from now on be referred to as “Roundtables” to distinguish them from unrestricted Open Threads. Please feel free to suggest that a Roundtable thread go up if any strong thread-drift trends are detected on analysis posts.
