The ALP launches its campaign today in Brisbane.
As I was saying earlier, it’s likely that Julia Gillard will focus on the economy, and weave together previous promises into a more focused narrative on Australia’s economic future. Announcements on education, trades training and the NBN will all be used to suggest Labor can move the nation towards a future focused on its people and their skills, and not just rely on resources and Chinese demand. Combined with the promise to return from deficit within the next term, this will be the building blocks of a story about the future – the contrast with the Coalition no doubt to be illustrated by Tony Abbott’s broadband recidivism.
This late in the campaign, the launch will probably be one of the last chances the ALP will take to articulate and sell a national message in positive register. Many voters will be paying attention to the campaign for perhaps the first time over the next few days, and Labor will hope for a few days’ positive messaging to set alongside the “Don’t Risk Abbott” theme.
I won’t be watching the launch, as I’ll be at work, but I believe it will be telecast live on ABC News 24 from 11am AEST.

It is also on sky but for the life of me why ABC1 and SBS the national broadcasters are not doing it but the murdoch media is beyond me
The ABC covered the Liberal launch, though, didn’t they?
Typo in your second paragraph: “return to deficit”, shouldn’t it be “returned from deficit”.
@3 – Thanks, Fozzy – corrected.
After the Libs apparently got not traction from their launch a week ago, Labor might be a bit nervous about any coverage. I have a feeling that the days of the big tax-payer funded launch might be numbered.
No sign of the launch on ABCtv 24News.
Correction. It starts at 11.30 here….
