Weird is the new normal

A climate clipping about how recent extreme weather events may be signs that the climate of North America is moving to a “new normal”.

Heavy rains, deep snowfalls, monster floods and killing droughts are signs of a “new normal” of extreme U.S. weather events fueled by climate change, scientists and government planners said on Wednesday.

“It’s a new normal and I really do think that global weirding is the best way to describe what we’re seeing,” climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe of Texas Tech University told reporters.

In the most recent Climate clippings I linked to this story. The odd thing is that temperatures in the grain belt in the US actually fell a bit in the period 1980-2008. There have been other changes, however, including a rise in the sea surface temperatures in the North Atlantic which would affect the weather.
