This week’s whimsy is brought to you by a Mariachi band serenading a Beluga whale.
Please share any bits and pieces you have come across recently that have surprised, delighted, intrigued or otherwise positively engaged you.
NB: the weekly whimsy thread is a stoush-free zone

I’m pretty certain that’s the first time I’ve ever seen the words ‘mariachi’ and ‘beluga’ appear in the same sentence.
Continuing the aquatic creatures + music theme, here’s a video of a kayak trip along a US riverbank, pointing out the range of wildlife. Contains banjo.
Via Craig Mc. where does the money for these clips come from?
That’s not banjo. This is banjo.
Damn! I’m at work, and if I played the banjo clips I’d get lynched.
Ha DInr, mind if i twist the knife, Tim Buckley on The Monkees.
psychadelic free jazz banjo!
Ah well if twisting the knife is allowed in the stoush-free zone, I’ll resort to Schratch and Sniff. That’ll jazz proceedings up for ya DInr.
Bastards.
Dial Up. sob
6 months into banjo lessons and going nowhere.. it’s harder than it should be. I am still getting a lot of enjoyment annoying the Ms by referring to my “banjo sensai”. Little wins…
Sorry, Forgot the link – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyQ-og1QFJM
Well, Bono did claim that they were only a very, very loud folk band.
This will probably only make the younger set laugh. What happens when you combine one of the most serious Tolkien-style videogames with some serious coding talent, Monty Python style humour and a Tiny Tim song that burrows it’s way into your head for days…
It’s The Silly Adventures of Mr. Mochi!

Beware…I’m serious about that song. I’ve had it in my head for the past few days…
Hey tssk. I am just back from the Doc, on top of all the other health issues, the eczema is back in force on the whole right hand and a little on the left one too. It got infected as well and I am seriously incapacitated now.
Never mind, I tucked a Tuna under my girdle, put on my boxing gloves, cleared the throat and am singing that ear-worm the whole day with intermittent ‘Zap-Kapow’s', while moving along swimmingly. Cheers for that!
I know this might run into stoush bait but I was amused by Fred Nile claiming that ethics classes in NSW were promoting ‘Nazi philosophies’.
You almost dragged me in Jess, i nearly posted a link to the Fred Nile vs Stryper debate from the 80s. I think Hayseed dixie is more appropriate
@13, wow, that just reminded me that Tiny Tim was gone too soon!
All we need now is a kazoo orchestra rendition of ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ over footage of frotting lemurs, and I think we’re done.
Tribute to the Sydney Harbour Bridge – the Ship Song Project – great Australian musical artists sing Nick Cave’s Ship Song – magnificent!
I mean the Sydney Opera House, not the bridge!!!
Cake or Death?
Yep. Here.
Vending machines? Kill 13 people annually? Really?
Things that kill people more than sharks.
