A few years back we had a very entertaining thread titled Cheezy Listening. Posts #17 and #48 of that thread referenced the bathetic “Tell Laura I Love Her”, and specifically the 1974 version by New Zealand band Creation.
I have now found the YouTube of that version. By a happy coincidence Ambigulous and Zabeel the Horse have been lurking recently. This is especially for you two.
What the hell, Norto. Of course you realise this means war.
Oh dear. That’s really, really, bad.
How bizarre to find this thread today . I give you that god among men, the brilliant, the beautiful, the astonishing Jordan Luck asking “what do you want from him?” in a completely non-ironic way.
Not quite so overwrought, but definitely cheezy: Smokie musing on 24 years of living next door to Alice.
I have no idea why I did not put my favourite song in the real world on that thread, Paul given I plastered it everywhere else on this blog whenever I could, on Facebook, everywhere really. Never mind. There are always second chances:
And of course, the Queen of Overwrought: Bonnie Tyler’s search for a hero (the uploader has included the lyrics, bless ‘em)
Well Casey, this is for you.
Cute how they’re so out of date isn’t it? 1973 still doing ’65 only with slightly longer hair.
And overproduced. Compared to the present it seems almost like folk music. Pretty drippy folk music.
Bathos and Pathos, the only one missing is D’Artagnan.
No one could doubt the genuine emotion here (at 2.55 it’s very affecting) plus it’s helped out by slowing down the tape for the grimaces.
(Still makes singers of today look like kids though)
I kind of like this one for the cheezy ‘I need your love’ vocals. And this off the same album is similarly cheezy. Of course for cheezy lyrics, picking on New Order is like shooting fish in a barrel.
Haven’t we spoken about this one before?
Although he probably doesn’t count as he is a Canadian not a Kiwi.
We have spoken about it Mindy. Here’s the album version for those who haven’t already suffered enough.
Don’t knock New Order, Paul of Albury. Just don’t. Lots of seminal lyrics from that lot, including my favorites:
It’s overproduced AND it’s topical, so I’ll just drop it here like a puppy too young to be toilet trained. With music like this behind, you don’t NEED the AFP to keep numbers down.
Cheezy? No really….cheezy??? Look…there is only one prince of cheez….
Awful Paul. Just awful.
Liam – I’m pretty sure that was D’Artagnan on bass.
Anyhoo:
Lots of hair, flannelette shirt, a drummer with a beard, a mandolin… Not cheesy at all somehow..Rory.
We wull be evinged for thus unsult whin Lights of Hivin wuns the Cups doubil end the Cox Plate over the nixt coupil of months. To quote enother InZid-brid colt who wint on to great thungs un Oz, “You mark my words, don’t you worry ebout thet!”
Of course, Lights of Hivin uz a fully, not a colt, but you git my druft.
Dad, I know you’re getting long in the tooth and have many distractions at this time of year, but let me remind you that I ceased to be a filly and became a mare a month ago.
