Nice stroll down Semaphore Road today and managed to pick up a second hand copy of Angie Hart’s most recent album the limited edition version with bonus disc along with a couple of cans of cherry coke.
Ain’t life grand.
It’s nice to have friends who are musos and have their own property out in the bush around Greenbank. This couple have a party every year, and invite people to bring their own instruments. It was extra fun having the property cut off by six foot high flood waters last night. But then no-one was going anywhere anyway. Next morning the flooding had declined and I could drive home.
Went to see Governor Wensley officially open the new RSPCA facility at Wacol – top notch place, glad Mrs Squirrels put our name on a paver for the place.
Had to get a new front door, since the last lot of persistent damp has managed to get in to the current one and, well, front and back panels have decided to part company in a manner that is beyond the mending power of wood screws.
Then spent a few charitable hours sharpening a school’s kitchen knives. No longer do they resemble hacksaw blades! Ye gods…
In a frenzy of greenie inspired recycling I spent a large part of the day cruising the pickings of a council chuck out day. With dog. Picked up some speaker boxes for the hoon car which I am slowly refurbishing prior to gifting it to my daughter. A 1990 Ford Laser TX3 – dual ohc and efi for those who know. The pocket rocket that establishes perfect white trash credentials. So my daughter says. But maybe it’s the cammo cap that real does the trick.
@2: “flooding had declined” – nice turn of phrase!
Great start to the morning, turn up at my dads to have him extol the virtues of Andrew Bolt’s show and call me loony left.
We talked gardening and cricket after that.
wilful,
Take heart that your father is one of the few people that watches The Bolt Report.
They say that young people are communist or socialist in their youth then become more conservative as they get older. Wilful which way will you lean in 30 years time?
Wasted Sunday. Watched Insiders.Watched DVD of Razor – could see it this time. Had drops put in my eyes. Watched ABC 1 Sunday night.
I was spending a weekend at the bro’s, on strike from the usual Housework Mountain that awaits me every Saturday after a week of everyone at school and work but not everyone pulling their weight. Instead of doing floors, bathrooms, laundry and pruning I was reaquainting with my guitar, reading my novel (Jennifer Egan’s new one, Look at Me) drinking cold beers and painting my toenails candy apple red. A weekend well spent.
billie, the saying is generally attributed to Churchill.
But I can’t say my father’s become much more conservative as he aged.
I spent Saturday at a Georgette Heyer Celebration (an ABC Sydney event). 150 people reminisced about discovering her works (often from an older family member or librarian) and their enduring appeal. Very cheerful and interesting day, they even included a fan service vid after lunch!
From wikipedia (yes, I know, I know):
“Show me a young Conservative and I’ll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I’ll show you someone with no brains.”
Often attributed to Winston Churchill. [5], The phrase originated with Francois Guisot (1787-1874): “Not to be a republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head.” It was revived by French Premier Georges Clemenceau (1841-1929): “Not to be a socialist at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head.”
