Cognitive dissonance in the Seduction Community

This (long) post is inspired by the tapes of self-styled seduction guru Dimitri The Lover (AKA James Sears) that are being discussed on blogs all over at the moment (or at least linked to with a LOLOLOL!!1!), and the arguments as to whether they are genuine recordings of a creep or performance art from a guy engaging in viral marketing for a movie. I’ll get to them later, but first a little about the background of the “seduction community”, because Sears claims to be a different kind of seduction guru.

There’s been a lot written about the seduction community (AKA players/PUAs (Pick Up Artists)) in the last few years, and it’s worth emphasising here that most men join these (largely online) communities because they are simply looking to gain more confidence when interacting with women, that there’s nothing wrong in principle with seeking sex without commitment for either men or women as long as everybody’s being emotionally honest and physically safe/sane, and that most of these men probably do ultimately want a committed relationship one day. These points are usually clouded by the best-known Community gurus emphasising cynical bedpost-notching above all (and making a lot of money talking about the ways that their special techniques allegedly make women powerless to resist them).

One of the aims of the Community is to correct a common problem for inexperienced men - an overly romantic view of women as sweet, pure and sexually demure that makes these men overly hesitant and overly eager to please. The Community doesn’t tend to mention that this package usually includes a belief that sex is inherently dirty, resulting in a side-serve of self-loathing for their desire to defile women, which is the part of their attitude that is most offputting, rather than the common plaint that the men are just “being too nice”.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with correcting the pernicious stereotype that sex sullies women and that men must supplicate and compensate women for their dirty male desires. Done properly it can lead to a more realistic, relaxed and confident style of social interaction that both sexes can appreciate. Unfortunately, instead of moving away from gender-stereotypes to view women as people with highly individual wants and needs (that often do actually include sex for fun with the right person at the right time), what tends to happen in the Community is that one gender-stereotype is replaced with another: women as fickle, emotional, selfish and easily manipulated. The idea that sex demeans women remains, but is recast as sluts deserve to be demeaned. Then the Community wonders why folks (not just feminists) find fault with their collective wisdom. I blame Canada

As a follow up to my post yesterday on the Liberals’ revived climate change denialism and the the fear campaign they’re running, I thought I’d point to a couple of interesting signs of the times. Tim Watts at Tree of Knowledge thinks the Libs have taken a leaf from the Canadian Conservatives’ book - the Tories in Canada are running a campaign against Liberal opposition leader Stephane Dion’s support for an emissions trading policy. It’s all couched in terms of “new taxes” and “driving up the price of everything” by putting a… wait for it… tax on petrol. The ads, which you can preview at this woefully designed website, are said by Watts to be going up in petrol stations.

Given Nelson’s populism/desperation on the Fuel Excise Cut, no doubt we can expect to see the same from the Coalition. There will come a time when the electoral value of climate change credentials will have to go head to head with back pocket concerns and the above is not an encouraging vision of the future. Whatever the substance of the response to the Garnaut report, the Government is going to have to engage in some pretty serious ground work in preparing the public for any adverse impacts….

Another report suggests that time may have already come. Continue reading ‘I blame Canada’

He’s not Canadian, but…

Riffing off this comment and the follow ups, and just for the hell of it…

Feisty!

LP was promoting Canadian indie music long before the NY Times discovered the fabulous Feist.

Indie to commercial success narrative aside, who has better dance routines in videos than the fantabulous Ms F?

Time to update those Liberal Agenda(TM) business cards

Apparently they should all now read Member in Good Standing of the Masonic Rothschild-Rockefeller cult-cartel, because it’s no use keeping that secret anymore, now that the man who invented the boardgame Scruples (Henry Makow PhD of Canada) is on to our nefarious schemes. We may just as well be loud and proud about it.

How has he revealed this remarkable secret plan for world domination to the global citizenry? Through his highly influential and well regarded website, of course. (Save the Males) In an article illustrated by a seriously swishy Uncle Sam Dr. Makow reveals the evilness within anyone who isn’t a social conservative (the comments thread is a pit of culture warriordom - beware).

I’ve said this before but it’s more true than ever. A satanic cult (Illuminism) is undermining our family identity to render us isolated, childless, sex-obsessed, dysfunctional, and docile.

I am referring to the Masonic Rothschild-Rockefeller cult-cartel which runs Europe and America and is behind Communism and Feminism. Destroying marriage and family was a plank of the Communist Manifesto (1848) and now is part of their satanic NWO.

Masonic Rothschild-Rockefeller cult-cartel. Say that three times fast, I dare you. Only those most filled with feminiziomarxiatheiexpialidociousness will be able to do so accurately. If you are such a fabulous exemplar of feminiziomarxiatheiexpialidociousness, report for special duties to our regional coordinator, Pirate Queen Kimberella, immediately.

(punkass) Marc Faletti, who coined the superb word feminiziomarxiatheiexpialidociousness and plans to defend his corner of the Masonic Rothschild-Rockefeller cult-cartel with a voodoo-doll-powered space-laser, has much more on Dr Makow’s shocking revelations about Communism! Feminism! Satanism! Zionism! at Punkassblog.

Fox confessor brings the flood

I just bought my tix for the Neko Case gig on Sunday night. Folks in Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne also have the opportunity to go see her play with a six piece band. Some might have caught her with New Pornographers in December last year - a gig I unfortunately missed. No advice from the promoters yet as to whether Canadian flags will be banned from venues to discourage ethnic gangs…

mum and dad and mum

A state Canadian court of appeal has recognised a non-biological lesbian mother as a third parent, in addition to the child’s biological mother and father, which effectively opens up the legal definition of family structure.

Canada and many US states (including Texas, which has nixed gay marriage) allow non-biological lesbian mothers to legally adopt their children. And just a few weeks ago a Californian court ruled that a non-biological lesbian mother was legally the second parent of a child born through anonymous donor sperm.

This Ontario decision, however, goes beyond the nuclear lesbian family. In this case the ‘other mother’ didn’t want to legally adopt her child as it would take legal rights away from the biological father, who is a friend of the two mothers and an involved parent. Their legal case sought recognition for the fact of a three-parent arrangement, with the two mothers as the central domestic parents.

Why is it that opponents of lesbian and gay rights see this as an “attack on the family unit”? Surely it reinforces the importance of close ties amongst the adults who raise children, in a slightly different version of family, but one which clearly works for everyone involved. Giving legal rights to a woman who has lived with and cared for a child since his birth is surely not going to lead to “the destruction of our society”. I can’t believe that many people will fall for such overblown rhetoric any more.

John Howard’s Australia is busy building a barrier to any such legal responsiveness to real life here. But I think these sorts of legal milestones will inevitably enter the zietgeist and eventually, hopefully, have an influence here too.

I won’t add my condemn to your condemn III

What’s with the blonde female characters on the West Wing who talk really fast in annoyingly squeaky voices? I refer to, and condemn, Toby’s new assistant.

Anyway, time again to condemn. So here’s a third open condemnation thread. What’s getting up your goat this week? Which evil political, cultural, social and religious phenomena need condemnation? You can condemn anything you like, except Angela Desveaux’ new record. I do condemn the fact that Canada has such a good indie bluegrass/alt.country scene compared to us.

Brrrr, that other leadership race

While we’re engrossed in leadership challenges for the next twenty four hours or so, I might as well point to one in Canada where the opposition Liberal Party has just concluded its leadership convention.

The Liberals are the natural governing party of Canada, and the winner of all but one of these conventions have gone on to become Prime Minister, with the Conservatives usually playing the part of seat warmer between generally short periods of voter discontent.

Held over a couple of days, the convention was a runoff ballot with the weakest link at the final of each round voted off the island and the five thousand delegates throwing their support behind the next guy depending on what prior deals have been made, it’s great fun.

No real need to know who all the candidates were, but it is important to note that one of them (the favourite) was former Harvard Professor, public intellectual and genuine blueblood, Michael Ignatieff.

Had I a vote he would have been my choice, naturally he didn’t win, and as with all wide open contests, the last guy you would think of came through to surprise everyone and himself. Some men seek out greatness, others sneak right up the middle.

The next Prime Minister of Canada is someone you’ve probably never heard of Stéphane Dion.
